Step 1: choose a strong brand name

Think about what customers will type after hearing your name once. Short, pronounceable names are easier to remember. Avoid spellings that differ only by punctuation or a single confusing letter. Search for existing businesses and trademarks before buying a domain that might create a dispute.

Prepare a first choice and two alternatives. Do not assume a name is free because it is not currently used as a website: domain registration records can still show it as taken.

Step 2: select an extension

For a Nigerian-facing project, you may consider .com.ng or .ng. .com may work for businesses serving broader markets. Compare first-year prices, renewal fees, eligibility and the impression you want your brand to convey. Domain policies for Nigerian extensions are published by NiRA.

Step 3: check the full domain

Type the complete name, for example example.com.ng, into the Estha domain search. The website forwards you to the client portal for a live availability check and final price. Domain checker results may change quickly: availability is not a reservation.

Step 4: register under your control

Use your own company or authorized contact details, a mailbox you can access and an account you can protect. Confirm the spelling before paying. Save your order and account information securely. Do not register an important company domain solely in a freelancer’s personal account without an agreement about control and handover.

Step 5: review renewal arrangements

Write down the expiry date, current renewal price and available payment method. A domain can expire if not renewed on time, which may interrupt a website and email. Registry lifecycle rules differ by extension, so recoverability is not guaranteed.

Step 6: connect the website

After registration, set the DNS records or nameservers provided by your hosting service. Allow for caching, then test the website with and without www. Configure mail records separately when using an email provider.
